Acai bowls have a bad reputation of being unhealthy, and for good reason! The acai bowls you find at juice bars usually contain tons of sugar from all the additional sweeteners they have added to the base, plus all the granola they top them with. Some acai bowls have the same amount of calories as a Big Mac! 🍔
But acai can actually be amazing for your skin because of it's high antioxidant levels, IF you consume it without the additional 40 grams of sugar that restaurants add to it. Ironically, acai is naturally very low in sugar, it isn't sweet at all!
This is why it's best to learn how to make acai bowls at home yourself so you can control the amount of sugar. Plus it will save you a ton of money! I love adding chocolate toppings to this, I think it goes really well with the acai, and banana flavors.
Smoothie
1 pack of frozen unsweetened acai. You won't find acai berries fresh in grocery stores because they begin to go bad immediately after being harvested, so you can only find acia frozen. Make sure to get unsweetened! 1 frozen banana
1/2 cup or 1 cup of frozen pineapple, can substitute frozen mango
1/4 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk, add more if you want it thinner.
Toppings
Vegan hazelnut butter
cacao nibs
shredded coconut
fresh berries or whatever fresh fruit is in season for you.
